Who are we?
Since 1993, RIVO (Réseau d’intervention auprès des personnes ayant subi la violence organisée) has been dedicated to providing psychotherapy to refugees and asylum seekers.
RIVO is a network of psychotherapists and social and community workers concerned with the well-being of survivors of torture and other forms of violence. The network brings together some thirty practitioners and has forged important partnerships with PRAIDA, several clinics and community organizations that refer patients to us. RIVO has become an indispensable support in dealing with the psychological suffering of people arriving in Quebec who have experienced traumatic situations and complex migratory trajectories. RIVO has solid experience in the administration of the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) and the relationship and compliance with MEDAVIE.
The organization offers individual follow-up at no cost to survivors on the recommendation of the primary caseworker. RIVO also provides referrals to other psychosocial resources.
In addition to therapy, we offer our clients:
- Access to massage therapy sessions (clients referred by their therapist);
- A phone pairing program for clients on our waiting list;
- Artisanal therapy groups;
- An employability program for women;
- Empowerment project: how to navigate administrative and social services in Quebec;
- Extensive follow-up in emergency situations;
- Talking groups.
We offer community organizations and institutional partners customized training on the psychological impact of organized violence, and support practical intervention skills. RIVO is a member of several platforms and roundtables, including the Canadian Network for Survivors of Torture and Trauma (CNSTT) and the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT). We participate in advocacy activities to highlight mental health issues.
We are searching for psychologists and psychotherapists interested in joining the network
RIVO-résilience is looking for psychologists who are members of the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ) and psychotherapists who hold a permit issued by the OPQ to join us in this human and clinical adventure.
Therapists (psychologists and psychotherapists) are invited to devote, according to their availability, hours of their weekly professional practice, which RIVO will remunerate, to offering psychotherapy to asylum seekers and refugees.
