Therapeutic Horticulture Group
This group aims to use gardening and horticulture activities to promote mindfulness, provide a healthy outlet for overcoming and managing difficult emotions and stressors, and foster mutual support and connections among participants.
LOGISTICS
- Each group meets eight times during the summer (one day per week, two hours per session)
- The workshops are held in person in a community garden
- Each session is co-facilitated by a therapist and a social worker
- Maximum of 12 participants per group
OBJECTIVES
- Teach and promote mindfulness and grounding strategies that can be applied to everyday life
- Foster community and mutual support: encourage social interaction and support within the group
- Support participants in their process of emotional regulation and coping with difficult life events
- Encourage contact with nature to provide participants with opportunities for personal healing, resilience, and connection to their new community
ACTIVITIES
- Gardening (planting, harvesting, etc.)
- Nature-based activities
- Mindfulness activities
- Cooking sessions
- Group reflection
- Etc.
